Hello, thanks for looking at my topic. My issue is I have bought a GTX 780Ti (MSI) and it simply refuses to work. I check the status and it says there is a problem with device driver error 43. I have tried installing the driver from NVidia and it doesn't work, I have DDU'd my PC and installed the driver again and same issue. In device manager it says the device is disabled due to a fault. This is the second GTX 780 to have the exact same issue but in putting my spare R7 370 in the machine it functions fine. Since this is the exact same issue on both GTX 780 cards I don't believe it to be a hardware fault in the cards because its just not that likely for 2 cards to fail. Are there any suggestions on what the issue could be and how to resolve it? I am getting a bit infuriated by the problem as in the UK those cards are still quite expensive to have them not work and sit around like expensive paper weights.

I am coupling the card with an i5-2500k, 8GB DDR3 1600 (1333) a GIGABYTE GA-PA65-UD3-B3 LGA1155 motherboard with the latest BIOS and the normal SSD and HDD combo.

Any suggestions would be appreciated though do bear in mind I have obviously tried removing the card, reinstalling the card, switching PSU and the likes of that.

Were these possibly used for mining?

Not likely. They are preowned cards but the place I purchased them from fully test the hardware before reselling them and they are older cards not really efficient for mining these days

To add more details to the topic the cards are both detected and recognised as GTX 780 and 780Ti cards but they are immediately both coming up with the same error 43 message upon installation so the cards are working and being picked up by the machine

Do not believe that "full test" thing. Most of used hardware resellers don't care so much - they probably prefer to money back sometimes than spending hours for testing.

But their 2 year money back warranty covers faults so in cutting corners to make money they would lose money by selling defective items. They may cover the cost of the card in money back warranties but they also cover the return fees so even if its just a few ££ they would still be making a loss

You could try going into device manager, selecting the card and then choose 'update driver software'. Although directly downloading drivers from the manufacturers website is preferable, it's worth a try.

Thanks for the reply again. I did try that and when I installed the drivers I began getting weird blue horizontal dash marks appearing all over the screen. Then the screen would change and lock the resolution to something weird like 800x600. When I DDU the drivers the screen would revert back to 1920x1080 then after installing the drivers again I would get the same blue dash marks and strange resolution

Hmmm...I'm really not sure what's going on...Maybe others could provide more input. I assume you're using  the latest driver for those cards, I'd try finding older revisions of said drivers. It would be strange for both cards to be bad, but I guess it is possible.

Sounds everything like a VBIOS issue.

Re-flash with the latest BIOS for your card off MSI's site (if there is a beta, ignore that. Latest stable VBIOS.)

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Image 1 is my PC working with the R7 360 installed, Image 2 is with the 780Ti installed pre driver install, Image 3 is the 780Ti with driver installed, Image 4 is the message I receive when looking in the properties of the card in device manager. Also note in image 2 and 3 the card is reading zero VRAM. No idea what the problem is

I agree with SenpaiKaplan. Try flashing the latest BIOS version for those cards, directly from the manufacturers website.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the further questions here but I know how to flash the BIOS on the motherboard and did so earlier today after I noticed the problem but how do I go about flashing the VBIOS? I wasn't even aware that was a thing. I'm not very good with this kind of thing. Hardware I am fine but things like that I have no idea. I sit in a state of panic when I flash the BIOS in case I brick the thing lol

VBIOS flashing is usually done with an executable. Many people say to run it in FreeDOS, but I have never had an issue flashing directly from Windows. May I ask exactly what model of 780TI you have?

Download GPU-Z.

GPU-Z

Note the bios version and the memory brand (Samsung, elpida ect)

Download the correct Vbios. Make sure bios version and memory type match.

Vbios

Or get it from the manufacturer.

Download Nvidia flash. Save the bios that's on there just in case. Flash the bios.

Aight. Here is what you will need:

VBIOS: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/156392/msi-gtx780ti-3072-140115-1

NVFlash: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-nvflash/

Thanks again for the help. I would love to say this fixed the problem but it persists. The VBIOS is updated as I can see it in GPU-Z that it has but it still reads 0MB VRAM and still gives me error 43 in device manager

Then it seems like a card error. A very weird one, mind you.

The only reason I never thought it would be a card fault is that I have 2 GTX 780 cards now and they both have the same error 43 when I install them so I thought it unlikely that 2 cards could have the exact same fault but it looks like they do

Currently ordering yet ANOTHER GTX 780. If this one has the same fault then honestly, I'm done trying. For the price of the things I could have bought a 1070 by now. I admit I will get a refund for the second card but to save time I am shelling out the price of another to get it sent to me ASAP. Thanks for all the help and advice folks, I appreciate it.
