Has it worked before or is this a new build?

Picture of the back of the PC would be useful.

Could we have a picture of the inside as well, showing all the power connections if possible.

Have you tried using a different display output? (HDMI, DVI etc.)

Is it an active converter?  I'd expect the adaptor to be fake or be a VGA to HDMI converter. (Converters generally only work one way. and you can't have a passive adaptor from HDMI to VGA)

If you have a HDMI display, use that with a HDMI to HDMi connection. If it works, it's going to be the converter that the problem.

Vga - HDMI converters would have been VGA male and hdmi female, in his case it is in the correct direction unless it's a direct cable.

I suggest plugging to a HDMI port on another display, like a living room tv.

That sounds like the problem to me. HDMI to VGA (and vice versa) needs a converter.

So, all HDMI/VGA and VGA/HDMI adapters will need to be active to work due to an analog to digital conversion. Anything saying it will work without being such, is just a lie to take your money.

In terms of the adapter, you need to be careful. Adapters should be listed as Video Source to Video Display and depending on the conversion, these don't work in reverse. The only exception, is HDMI/DVI, HDMI to its other sizes, and Dp to MDP and vice versa on those. All others, are one way only, and only in the direction listed.

As such, if this is an HDMI to VGA adapter, 95% of the time, it will be HDMI male, to VGA female (designed to have a VGA cable connected to it). Most adapters will be male on the source, female on the display side because you want to convert as close to the source as possible. Circling back, if it's an HDMI Male, to VGA female adapter, it's HDMI from the computer, to VGA on the display ONLY. It will not work in reverse.

Judging by the cable, if you are using a straight adapter, then it's female HDMI, and male VGA which means it's actually a VGA to HDMI adapter and as mentioned, won't work in reverse.

If you are using a cable based solution, the same rules apply. An HDMI to VGA, and VGA to HDMI cable are very different things.

Source? I work for a manufacturer of such products and troubleshoot this issue all the time.

Hope this helps/clears things up @JapaneseTuna
