once in a year or so, i use isopropyl + towels. A liter of that is like 10$.

Not regularly - there's really no need, unless you get your phone actually dirty with contaminates (snot or something) frequently. A simple microfiber cloth (or a shirt, frankly) to keep the screen clean is good enough.

Simple alcohol wipes would also work, if you're looking for an alternative to disinfectant wipes.

Phone screens features an oleophobic coating which also helps your finger glide smoothly on it (and its main function, reduce fingerprint being displayed).

Using strong cleaners removes that coating.

Use a good quality lint-free microfiber cloth. Use a bit water on the cloth if you have anything that is hard to take off.

And? You're not licking your phone. Some people are overly obsessed with anti-bacterial and disinfecting things, etc. The obsessive nature of people who use hand sanitizer constantly all day, for example.

The slight amount of bacteria that might get onto your phone from when you're in your bathroom is not at all anything to be concerned about.

I’ve done a few swabs over the years, it’s nowhere near the amount of microbes that are actually present on your skin. Don’t worry, nothing can really persist very well, maybe some GI pathogens (E.coli), if you’re especially lucky.

Here's one way to look at it.  IF you are the only one who touches your phone.  Then the only germs it has are germs you already have.

So what's the point of disinfecting it?

Friends shouldn't share phones.   Treat your phone like it was a most ... uhm... personal ... part of you and don't share it with someone you wouldn't create new humans with.   The only other option is to invent the phone condom or something.

Frankly a friend borrowing your phone for a few minutes to look at a video or some pictures or something isn't going to cause any medical concerns.

People are too freaked out about germs and bacteria. Or they're completely filthy - there seems to be a lack of middle ground.

As long as you clean yourself daily and you wash your hands after using the bathroom (and don't... like, get pee or poop onto your phone somehow), then there's literally no concern at all.

There's no point in doing so, unless you work in a high-risk environment like a hospital/doctor's office.

Let's also stop using sanitizer as there have were 4 reports last year of bacteria that were able to survive 5 minutes of 70% ipa. We even did PARE with bacteria from our local soil and bacteria grew regardless of our daily 70% applications (tetracycline is used in PARE, but we also used a separate set for just ipa per the instructor's desire to teach us that ipa is not a substitute for washing your *filthy* hands). Bacteria are starting to get used to it and it's pretty frightening.

And none of that Lysol bullshit. It's crap that you're paying money for.

I take that back! At least bull shit can heat your home and provide light. Lysol is worthless.
