Hello, I am currently using 2x4GB RAM. When I play some newer games I cannot have anything open in the background or it will crash. I was thinking about upgrading with some used sticks that I can find cheaper on facebook marketplace or something. Is it okay to mix different brands/speeds/sizes of RAM that are still DDR3? Thanks.

How do you know that it is crashing because of ram?

Usually things just get very slow and stuttery because stuff is moved to the page file, not crashing because ram runs out.

I would make sure that ram is the issue in the first place. 8 GB is still fine nowadays, nothing should "crash" because you have that amount.

So when I have chrome open with some games, I sometimes first get a windows notification saying low memory or low ram something like that. After a bit it would crash.

No games running right now but are there any red flags?

So what's your gpu and cpu? 8GB should not be to little at all.

Personally I have 16gb ram but I only get above 8gb when I play intensive games and because I use lots of chrome tabs. I stream a lot as well which is why I got the 2x8 GB.

I have a pretty old system.
r7 260 2GB
AMD FX6300

When I'm playing dead by daylight with friends with discord even with chrome closed sometimes it would crash. I definitely cannot play it with chrome open.
