Is SK Hynix BC501 HFM256GDJTNG-8310A M.2 NVMe drive any good?

RejZoR

I'm looking at some laptop that has this one, but I can't seem to find much about it. Seems like some OEM thing, I could dig out that it's M.2 NVMe drive with roughly 700MB/s read/write, but not much about anything else like what NAND type is used or the controller and if it's DRAM-less or not.

Apparently it's used in the Surface Pro 6. Since that launched last year and Hynix still isn't really pushing QLC, at least you can be pretty confident it's not QLC.

Anandtech's review of the Surface Pro 6 has a little data on SSD performance. I also checked some other reviews that mention much lower sequential performance, which may be the sustained performance when the SLC buffer is full.

If it's used in Surface device, I can assume it's not DRAM-less. Especially since it's the real NVMe and not M.2 SATA like cheapo ones.
