What do you do with your old rigs?

Spancer

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this but here I go..

What are you doing with your old rigs? Sell them? Dump them?

Or maybe use them as a minecraft server?

If you sell them or dump them, do you keep some components?

I was thinking of getting a new computer around next year so I can use my old one as a linux server to run stuff on. I guess I'll reuse the SSD for the new build.

I think the most economical thing to do is sell them the instant your new rig is up and running. But I never do and without fail I always end up using my old rig at some point for something.

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

I'm using my old rig for dabbling around in Linux.  Trying different distros, looking for alternatives for my regular Windows programs, messing around with mount options for multiple drives in the same system, etc etc.

Basically I'm using it as a testing machine so I can move my main rig over to Linux by the end of the year.

Once that's done ... I don't know.  I usually work from home so it never hurts to have a backup PC that's all set up.  .

I keep PCs that have sentimental value to me. The rigs I don't really care about are either re-used or parted out.

I give it away to those who need it, literally there is no point for me to keep them. My computer is my file storage, server and my gaming machine.

I would keep them, and use them for secondary projects/parts. It is always handy to have a spare computer around if you need one.

Especially now within the last 10 years computers have become so fast even the original i5-i7 are actually pretty usable still.
