dont bother. just get 6 smaller ITX HTPC builds that you can stack on top of eachother.

any decent solution would be quite expencive and cause more trouble than its worth.

well... you probably want 4 cores/user

6x4+2=26 cores

add enough GPUs (1 person=one gpu) and one for supervisor

so get ready to get into threadripper, xeon or epycs

@LukeSavenije 4 core for each? even if it only do minimum task?

all 6 user will only use a encoding system. and no other app will be installed

if you are going to do it properly you are looking at a lot of very expencive equipment.

also quote properly @SecretBase or tag properly.

more or less. you would probably looking at a Epyc 7601 or a threadripper 2990wx.

what programs are they using? if its basic tasks like office + mail + web browser, you really don't need that much cpu power.

Way overkill for multipoint, the users won't need much cpu for basic tasks, and cpu is shared amount users, so one user can have a burst of speed if needed.

You would still be looking at around 12c.

I would at least have a core ready for any user. Though you are most likely correct.

for what most users are doing, they will need less than a core levels of performance on average, Im guessing this would work fine on a 4 or 6 core systems. They really don't need much cpu power.

Have you taken a look at cpu usage averages on office desktops? From what I am monotoring, there mostly sitting at less than 25% usage and these are mobile first gen i3s

Do you have a system to test it with? This shouldn't need much hardware to run on, mostly a lot of video outputs(get a few low end gpus).

as of now i don't have a spare system to test this. my only reference was my dual user. i only use the integrated GPU for the 2 monitor.

  • 5 months later...

I am currently running 3 stations using an AMD 1050T with a HIS (AMD) 6950 2GB and a Asus GTX 1050 2GB.
This is was my gaming pc years ago and turned into my kids computer.  I have 3 kids.
With 16GB of RAM they have a Minecraft Java server running in a service state constantly and are able to run software like Roblox/Minecraft at all stations just fine.
I did have some problems running some games off the ASUS online with lots of other players while two other users played Roblox.  I shut off the Minecraft server and ran fine.

For me I already had a dual monitor setup and went with Aster when I had two kids.  I already had the hardware.  Also there are always codes for 25% off or more for Aster.  When the new kids wanted to play I found the 1050 on kijiji and hit up the thrift shop and got a cheap monitor and keyboard/mouse and plugged it all in. Setup Aster and were good.

What I find super handy is that I only need one SSH session to kick them off without shutting down other services I have running.
"quser" gives you everyone who is logged in.  Then you can "logoff #" where # is the ID you get from "quser" to log off users.  Can also see when they logged in.  Easy to see if they log in during the night or when they are not supposed to.  Can even "shutdown /s" to turn the computer off remotely.

Attached are images of the setup from 2 users to 3.  Here is my Linus Tech Tips ASUS ROG Reboot 2018 video submission about the computer as well.
