Need a VERY low power CPU

Hey guys.

Working on a pretty complicated build. I need a CPU that is super lower power (think 60W or less). I remember there was the Intel T processors that were super low in power consumption, but I don't know what the newest stuff out there is. What are some good options?

Thank you!

I've got an i7-6700T in one of my builds. 35W. Never caused a performance bottleneck. You can also undervolt CPUs to keep them sub-60W, but 60W isn't really low power anymore. Most Ryzen chips use 65W stock, and I believe Intel's Pentium and i3 lines are all below 60 (except for the overclockable i3).

I see, that's awesome. Technology is so sick :)

I'm looking to pair it with the ASRock H310M-STX, which supports 8th/9th gen CPUs. From what I can tell, the i7-8700T seems to be the newest version of the same CPU you have, would that be correct?

Yes, I don't think there are any 9000-series T SKUs out there yet. I'd still consider buying a regular CPU and undervolting it. That gives you a CPU much easier to resell.

They're all quite difficult to find at retail, though.

Yep, just discovering this now :/ Seems like almost all of them are in prebuilts. Might have to resort to that to complete this build.

Basically you can underclock any (new)  cpu to sub 3ghz and get under 60watt.

I found my 6700T on eBay, if that helps. You're not going to find a T-SKU in retail packaging because they're not intended for retail sales. They're designed for companies like Dell and Lenovo to put in their ultra-small form factor workstations that have a 120W PSU and woefully inadequate cooling for anything more substantial than an abacus.
