GTX 1650 or used RX 560/GTX 1050Ti (PSU without 6-/8-pins)

Frizzer107

I'm in a strange situation right now:

My current system is an i5-4460S (4C/4T@ 3GHz) and a GTX 750 on an MSI mobo and with a PSU without any 6- or 8-pin connectors. And while that 750 has done a good job so far, it's become a real pain by now. But the thing is, I will only be able to use that system for another 1.5 years (exactly why doesn't matter here).

So my question is, should I buy a used RX 560 or GTX 1050Ti for around 100€ or spend the additional 50€ for a GTX 1650 but only gain a 30-35% performance increase at best?

While the first is obviously the better bang for my buck, 1.5 years is a really long time in terms of games and computer hardware, so it's quite possible a 1050Ti ain't gonna cut it then and I will be in the same position as I am now. And while the 1650 has an awful value in most cases, it will give me the best performance possible today without needing to upgrade my PSU as well because of those power connectors.

A 30-35% performance increase is pretty significant. Id go with the 1650. Unless you have the budget to upgrade ypur psu, in which case id get an rx 580. If ypure able to stretch your budget that much. You can find fairly decent PSUs for 50.

With such a weak CPU, you won't be able to take advantage of the speed of a 1650 over a 1050 ti. If you get a used 1050 ti off eBay for a good price, that would be the best you should go for.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Wait what is ypur psu? They sell adapters. That might be an option dependant on your psu. Will stretch more value out

That CPU is perfectly fine for a 1650 man.

That's not true. He may have to tweak his settings, but a 4460S is still decent.

I would reccomend upgrading the psu first honestly. Can also pribably find a 770 cheaper than a 1050ti. That way you can upgrade both. Unless we are talking about a proprietary HP mobo. In which case in may be possible to get an adapter for the psu.

It should say the amount on the power supply.

But if you upgrade your PSU then you can get an RX 570 which is better and cheaper than a 1650.

Always spend the little extra on a good PSU, if it's a system you care about.

An i5 7400, a better CPU, bottlenecks a weaker GPU, a GTX 970, so "most games" is not accurate. Some games would be fine however.

I have an i5 4440+RX 580 right next to me. The game with which I've had the most issues is Fallout 4. And then only in downtown Boston. Ark Survival, Dark and Light, Battlefield V, Space Engineers, 7 Days to Die and Atlas have no problems at all.

BTW, my GTX 970 also only had problems with the i5 4440 in down town Boston when playing FO4.

Wait until it does so you don't end up with a dead GTX 1650 because you wanted to use a 180W power supply with cables as fin as floss.

If you can afford a 1650, then you can afford a lower end 450W PSU and an RX 570 4GB.

Maybe if you have V-Sync off or are trying to play at a high refresh rate.

Then your system is messed up. Having issues with Skyrim on a 7400 is especially weird. I mean issues aside from the normal ones, because it's a buggy mess. It could even consistently get 60fps on my old Haswell i3. Hell, I even ran Skyrim on a Core 2 Quad without stuttering, and it was at 2.6GHz.  As I recall the settings were at medium, but that's over 10 years old. I suggest starting a new thread if you want suggestions fixing it.
