RM550x and Vega 56

jazz9

Hi,

With the prices coming down lately I'm considering a Vega 56 but have been reading here and there that you should really use 2 different PCI-E cables to power it.

Thing is, the RM550x only has one with pigtail connectors.

Should  I avoid it?

Thanks

Nah with a RM550x you're 100% perfectly fine to use a Vega 56, it is a high end and quality PSU.

The whole deal about using 2 completely different PCI-e cables really only was true with R9 295x2... people started to say it about the Vega 56 simply because it really is a demanding GPU on the regards of peak electricity load and if you use a bad PSU (most still do for w/e reasons) you'd have a bad time, so this was a way to cover bases.

So you're good to go, grab the V56 and be happy.

No, @Corsair Nick might help you with the Cable.

Those are pretty standard EPS12V to PCIe.

Besides that the V56 has a rather low Powerlimit of only 210W as well.

You would have to use the Pigtail PCIe cable that came with the RM550x running the Vega56.  The RM550x only has two 8-pin connections, and one will be needed for your EPS to the motherboard.  Shouldn't have any issues running on the RM550x with a single Pigtail cable, we've done it before in a few different builds with the exact same parts.  Keep me posted if you have more questions.
