Hey guys,

I've recently bought a new PC and it's kitted out pretty sweet!

MSI A-Pro B450

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

16 Gb DDR4 RAM @ 3200MHz

500Gb M.2 SSD (WD BLUE)

And it's rocking... a-hem... an AMD Radeon HD 7850 2Gb from my old Phenom II X4 PC ? (due to budgeting reasons).

Should I wait for AMD Navi? With their rumored GTX 1080 competing models for a MUCH lower price? Or do you think getting something from team Green would be the wiser choice?

P.S - Currently gaming on a 24" 1080p display.

Thanks guys!

It's more whether or not you're willing to wait another couple of months for the chance of a better deal, no one can tell you it's worth it or not as nobody knows what Navi will truly be like and you're up to some good couple of months of waiting yet with an old GPU that certainly is a big time bottleneck if you're into gaming.

My attitude with regards to this is there's always something new coming along, so if you keep holding out for the newest model, you'll always be waiting.

That said, the HD7850 is so old you could pick up a cheap RX560 for an immediate improvement, then wait on the big GPU after Navi releases and benchmarks come in.

I'm pretty sure my purpose in life is to serve as a warning for others.

You don't need a GTX1080 equivalent card for 1080p gaming.  There are a lot of cards out right now that will rock 1080p very well, worth looking at.  Navi, as said, isn't coming out for a bit and IMO will most likely just crowd the 1080p gaming space.  Especially when Nvidia releases the 1650, 1650Ti, 1675, 1675Ti, 1680Tx, 1677Ti, etc. etc etc.

Basically, buy a good card now for a good price and enjoy life.  Using that GPU you have now... ehh.

Yeah, wait. And even if Navi doesn't live up to the hype, prices will still likely come down. There are rumors that Nvidia could lower their RTX prices in response to Navi. (I don't believe it personally knowing how greedy they are but you never know).

if you can wait the required 2-5 months then sure.

but at the moment Navi seems to be  mixed bag based on rumours.

wouldnt do that. his GPU is around 20% slower than a gtx 1050. which is good enough for 720p gaming.

I've seen a Vega56 go for as cheap as $260 recently. If you could snag one that cheap I'd do it. Major upgrade over what you have now. Only benefit of Navi may be power consumption tbh.
