What are you using it for?

In general, kit lenses are universally bad, and you shouldn't base your purchase decisions on them, unless you can't afford or don't want to buy something else.

The 3500 is the slightly better camera in terms of features. The 3300 is ancient, it was released back in 2014 while the 3500 is from last year.

5 years is not that long in camera terms, especially between those 2, since they are techincally quite similar, although the d3500 is clearly the choice to make.

OP at that market segment I tend to recommend people look at Canon, specifically for a used 800d due to its ability to use the entire EF lens lneup, unlike the Nikons whose lack of an in body AF motor precludes you from using the majority of affordable f mount lenses.

Kit lenses are normally not all that great overall.

What is your budget?

The Nikon D5600 is a MUCH better body.

If you can swing it this kit is a lot better overall, D5600 and 18-140mm VR Lens (Not your basic kit lens)

Not ancient...

I still have a Nikon D90 and still use it, still a good camera. ;)

Also have a D7500 that I got not long ago, huge, massive upgrade from the D90 in every way.

I have a d3400 kit with an 18-55 and a 50-200 lens and im really glad I got it. Im a beginner so I probably wouldnt have went out and bought a telephoto lens (even the kit lens would cost you around $200-300) but now that I have one I really enjoy using it.

If the choice is d3300 with 2 lens or d3500 with one I say go for d3300. Check the used market as well, lots of people buy cameras and later sell them and you can get good lightly used cameras at reasonable prices

True.

However sometimes really great lenses are bundled into kits for incredible deals so it's good to watch out for those. ;)

Sometimes you can get a huge discount on a high end lens in the kit and good glass lasts forever. :D
