JayzSub

Can I still use my brother's extra windows 8. 1keys to activate the windows 10 pro?

He's got 3 extras

AFAIK Microsoft isn't giving free upgrades to windows 10 anymore... You'll probably need a new key.

Why don't you just try it?

Somebody tried it a year ago, still works.

I've used Win7 keys to activate Win10 long after the official scheme was closed. Just make sure to install the correct Win10 version corresponding to the Win8 version.

Or you can just install windows 10 without activating.

You'll loose the optional GUI customization, but everything else will work.

Nowadays, MS don't really care if you activate or not.

Just try it. Microsoft is more willing to get bigger marketshare than actual money. As they get main revenue from other sources anyway. Otherwise they would have locked activation better.

I literally just tried it (1 month ago) using a windows 7 home premium key to activate a windows 10 home license. Works and no more watermark :)

Which is incorrect as windows 7, 8 and 8.1 license keys are currently still good for installing respective installs of windows 10 (even a windows 8.1 license key that was hard coded into a motherboards BIOS was good for a windows 10 install if the same type and automatically selected the correct version without any prompts).
