Since my 2011 mac is slowly getting slower and unpractical im looking for a windows laptop.

And because i intend to go to an university where i prop need a laptop , one with which i can do programming (simulations for example), using programs like fusion 360 and also be able to play on it (stuff like modded minecraft or fortnite).

I heard i should aim for 16 gb ddr4 ram and 256 gb ssd  but for what should i look out for too? As im still in school i hope to find a fairly cheap laptop.

Im glad for any advice regarding for favorable specs i should look out for, where i could and where i shouldnt go to get a laptop (for example buying one in amazon good or bad) or what models would fit my requirements and you would recommend for me.

Have a good day

looking for a future proofed laptop

doesn't exist

laptops are mostly proprietary components with little upgrade options as time goes on. the lifespan of the laptop reflects its REAL expected lifespan which is only a few years.

if you are in school , buy a low cost laptop , you'll need the money

its more that im looking for a laptop that can replace my mac and can be relevant for like the next 5-6 years. Right now i dont really need a laptop but a few factors like, i want windows for more options, in general my mac seems slow im looking for a laptop now.

I meant with  "future proofed" that the laptop still is and will be relevant for few years

this will also be a very tall order as whatever you buy will be outmoded within half that time. Which is why i recommend a lower cost laptop that just gets the job done.

Literally, only possible option I know of is that new Alienware that Dell made the GPU form factor for. It's the Area 51 something or other.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Wall Of Fame (Informative people/People I like): @Glenwing @DrMacintosh @Schnoz @TempestCatto @LogicalDrm @Dan Castellaneta

As far as things to look for I'd probably say look for i7 or ryzen cpu, and make sure to check the core/thread count and once you narrow your field look at reviews. Idk what graphics fortnite requires, but you'll probably want a dedicated gpu, probably doesn't need to be much. You might have to plan to buy a ssd to put into it yourself, but should be fairly cheap and easy as long as you have a small screwdriver... I reckon you can tick all of your major requirements for under $1000, but as mentioned that longevity is gonna be problematic
