290x will perform better but not by much.

I have an R9 290x and it is the noisest, hottest, and most power-guzzling card I've ever owned. Gigabyte Windforce OC for reference.

A beast though. It handled everything I threw at it at 1080p. I even ran it in my new 9900k rig for a few weeks at the start of the year before I grabbed an RTX 2070 :)

Given the age of the R9 series, even if you got a 290x bit cheaper than a 570, chances are a fan or something is on the way out anyway. (I've also got a spare Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x which may as well be the same card in terms of heat and noise. It's got a bung fan though)

But I'd honestly recommend a GTX1060 or something instead.
