How big of a PSU do i really need

Hello,

so a couple of months ago i upgraded my GPU. I bought a vega 56 that i found for dirt cheap on amazon and i’ve wondered since if i need to upgrade my PSU. My current setup is:

6600k at 4.4ghz, 1.35 volts

vega 56 at +7% overvoltage, 1690mhz on the core, 950 on the memory

16gb of DDR4 memory 

2 HDDs and 1 SSD

and 4 random 80mm fans.

My current PSU is a corsair vs650, but when i put the setup in one of those online wattage calculators i get ~640W at load and ~690W recommended PSU wattage, which considered the vs650 is not the most efficient PSU, is waay more than it can handle. Lately i haven’t got much time to game but it seems to run stable enough that i haven’t seen it crash at these CPU and GPU overclocks, but i do remember crashing indefinitely when giving 1.4 volts to my CPU. I probably have to upgrade my PSU but how much wattage do i need? 850w sounds reasonable enough, so what are good 850 PSUs?

anyway id get a good 650W, the VS line is crap and online PSU calculators are utter trash

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

It's funny, bc the BQ calculator suggests 550w Dark Power or Straight Power for an overclocked 6600k&vega56 rig with 4 fans, and the mentioned drives.. :) According to BQ, the peak power requirement would be roughly 410w on full load.

 

a 600-650w unit will be more than enough.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

How did you test stability of overclock?

It's not whether or not the VS650 will work... it does work.

 

The true question is for how long it'll work.

 

You're advise to replace it when you can for something better, what's your budget and market place?
