i do not belive 500 usd is overkill, its like my parents put lot of money in my education etc so i want to return some of it in form of having super smooth experience with pc :)
also i think that using pc is easier than learning new stuff in android (like ms office etc) you need to consider old parents factor XD (they are over 50)

get a 2400g with B450 Pro4 and sound card should good enough for like 4 years with a GPU

Hi, i am gonna build pc for my mother. It is my third build ,but first not for gaming.
So i would like you to check my part pick and add suggestions.
i need this build to:

-quick boot, and overall smooth experience

-mostly browse net comfortably (with lot of chrome tabs)

-watch some movies

-office work

-be future proof like it will need to run MS Office 2030,
-have spdif output (must have)

budget is about 520 usd  (odd number due to currency change from Poland)

My pick is

CPU                          AMD Ryzen 3 2200G 3,5GHz
MOBO                      ASRock X370 Killer SLI  (one of cheaper  boards with spdif)

RAM                         HyperX 8GB 2666MHz HyperX FURY Black CL16 (single 8GB so i can add another later on)

PSU                          be quiet! 400W PURE POWER 11 CM

SYSTEM SSD          WD 250GB WD Blue SSD M.2 2280 3D NAND

STORAGE HDD       Toshiba 2TB 7200rpm. 64MB P300 OEM

CASE                        SilentiumPC Gladius M35 Pure Black (basic case with no window)

please tell me what you think, i am not sure about motherboard.

For just office work, the Athlon 200GE is a good choice for $50 USD. With what you have now, you have a pretty good budget gaming computer.

maybe if you want a B450 Board like Pro 4 or gaming plus. but only for browsing i agree with @nelsonpongathlon 200GE is more than enough. browsing a lot of tabs is mostly ram dependant than cores

i picked ASRock X370 Killer SLI only because it have spidf output witch is critical for this (we have toslink in wall conecting stereo in other room)

about CPU is ryzen like waste of money in this build? (i can sometime play LOL or other light game when i am watching my parents cat/dog when they are on vacation etc)
since it is like 40-50 USD in price difference (is currently on sale in my local shop)

At a whopping $90ish, it's hard to say the Ryzen 3 isn't still the better buy. It's not a huge savings, and if she keeps tons of tabs open, etc it will be a benefit.

SPDIF motherboards ain't easy to find, and this one probably needs a BIOS update.

Quick side note: Mom won't need 16GB RAM for general computing.

Grab 2x4GB sticks, because the dual channel memory will be more compatible. No need to upgrade in the future.

You might consider a more powerful cpu. While not strictly needed for browsing, it provides a better user experience and does help with spreadsheets and complex documents.

I'd also suggest a motherboard with four memory slots. This allows the use of a 2x4GB dual channel memory kit to start, with room for a no replacement upgrade.

Most office systems don't need more than 250GB of storage. I'd suggest a 500GB ssd. An hdd can always be added later.

Why not just buy her a good laptop or tablet? Surely at that price for your mum is overkill

You consider US$520 overkill?
