Videos rendering red? GPU issue or "CPU bottleneck"?

XTankSlayerX

Hey guys!

Recently I've been edit lots of video and have run into a issue where videos will seemingly render fine for the first minute or so of the video then render completely red....

I've also noticed a difference in stability when using hardware acceleration compared to software acceleration (software accel is more stable)

So figuring it was my GPU i took it to Memory Express for an exchange. Dropped it off, came back the next as they needed to test it...

I wasn't issued a replacement as 3D performance was fine, i mentioned that it was the way the card behaved in professional environments was where it was having issues.

I was transfered to the tech who explained that the card was fine and that the problem lies within other components in my system, i was asked what CPU i have and was told that my CPU (3770) was likely too slow to keep up with my graphics card hence the red frames.

How true is this?

I'm starting to think it's a RAM problem, which i can troubleshoot but haven't yet, if that doesn't work then I suppose I'll be looking at buying a new system (is LGA2066 a good idea to keep my upgrade path open?)

(system specs: 3770, Asus P8z77-v PRO, 16 Gb of Hyper X fury ram and 16 gb of Corsair vengeance)

And to make matters worse when i was picking up my card one of the peeps working there made the one who was holding my GPU in the box drop it... Not q big deal except the box opened before it hit the ground leaving the power connector area unprotected for the carpeted floor... *sigh*

I hope it's okay...

def cpu. that is a very old cpu. when you upgrade cpu, you will need more ram

This is not the issue. I was able to render just fine with a Core 2 Duo from 2009, just took a while

My profile picure is real. That's what I look like in real life. I'm actually a blue and white African Wild Dog.
