CPU Pins don't have the same shape !! Help :)

Call_Me_Daddy

Hi guys !

I'm facing something very surprising.

I've been trying to build up an old PC with a new PSU in a new case. Problem : when assembled and fired up, it does a continuous short beep, meaning PSU problem.

i've tried to unplug every component to target the problems and I'm surprised to see that the cpu psu cable (Corsair VS550) and my mobo Cpu conector GA-P55-UD3 don't have the same pins order !

Is that common ? Did I miss something when picking components ? I use the PSU I was using in a new machine and it works just fine so I wonder what's going wrong here...

Are you sure that's not the PSU side (in case it's a modular PSU, looking at the picture doesn't seem like it is).

Otherwise, is that a standard board or something like a Dell or HP PC?

Doesn't look like this is 6+2 pin PCIE, since in that case 2 of the 8 pin can be broken off.

I don't believe the VS has a modular version

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Are you using the Pcie power insted of the cpu?

Just double checked : no, cpu cable. PCIe are different

Lots of PSUs are made like that. You're fine to plug it in.

Ok good to know but I was hoping the problem to come from here.

it's a gigabyte card which was as far as I know being sold separately. I think I'm going to try it with its old PSU to see if it's still working

The reason for this different shape on the 8pin connector is that you can use either half of that in a 4 pin counterpart.

Though you don't need to look at wich side of the Connector to put in, you can use either...

The shape doesn't matter. All that's matter is the voltage which should be the same.
