Noctua nh-d15 vs EVGA CLC 280mm All-In-One RGB LED CPU Liquid Cooler

webguy

Hi.  I am building my first pc.  It will have an i9 9900k with an evga 2080 ti black edition.  I plan to do some moderate overclocking.  My gaming sessions are likely to be several hours long at a time.  It is going in a cooler master h500 case.  I originally ordered the noctua nh-d15 cpu cooler but I have recently been offered a really good deal on the EVGA CLC 280mm All-In-One RGB LED CPU Liquid Cooler for less than I paid for the nh-d15.  I am worried about temperatures in the case.  What do you think?  I know the nh-d15 is one of the best air coolers but how do you think it would do against the evga 280mm aio?  Which would cool better in that setup?  Thanks!

Ultimately up to you, but I'd get the D15 just for absolute silence.

Though getting that AIO for less than the D15 is a real steal.

Thank you.  I did a lot of research and was set on the d15 then I saw this really good deal on the evga aio.  I had been told also that the d15 would be blowing a lot of hot air in the case and was wondering if the aio would be better.

Both of them will introduce hot air somehow

Certainly shouldn't be blowing a LOT of hot into the case, if your case fans are working properly.

Also consider that AIO's could have 2 points of failure over air coolers (leaks and pump going out/noisey).

Forgive me El Guapo. I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education...

^^^ D15 is quieter and will probably cool a bit better, or at least as well as the AIO. The stock fans on that AIO are also really, really loud if you get above 40-50% (I've had one), whereas my NH-D15S is not really noticeable at full load (the D15S is just an offset D15 with one fan instead of two).

Thank you.  I have decided to keep the d15 and see how it does.  I am hoping that installing an extra fan in the top of my case will be enough to keep the temperature cool in the case.  I just have to decide whether it will be an intake or exhaust fan.  I have two 200mm intake fans on the front of the case with a 120mm exhaust fan on the back.  I can put in either one 200mm fan or two 140mm fans on the top of the case but I am not sure if they should be intake or exhaust.

On top or in the back always exhaust, intake only on the side and in the front.

Ok thank you for the information.  That is likely what I will do then.
