Moving to ultrabook

I currently have a Dell XPS 15. I chose it because I wanted something with good build quality, and a discreet GPU.

I have no issue with the device at all, except the weight. I primarily do server side coding, and need to transfer to a lighter device.

My primary concerns are quality of keyboard and 16 gig of ram (as I want to be able to run Linux dist in VM) and 15"ish screen.

I am looking for recommendations. Currently I've been exploring:

Surface Pro 6

LG Gram

ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Any advice you have will be appreciated.

Thanks

LG Gram is a good bet, except the fact that it's pretty flexible, so the keyboard can feel a bit mushy especially if not on a table. The Surface Pro 6 is probably not a good choice since it's only 12," not 15". I'd look at a Surface Laptop (amazing keyboard) or XPS 13, as well as the LG Gram in its various sizes. ThinkPads are also a great bet but I've never used an X1 Carbon so not sure.

Thanks for the response.

The Surface Laptop seems so overpriced for what it offers. Not even Thunderbolt. :(

Budget? Usage? Max weight preferred in kg/lbs? Any preference on battery life? Mind low sRGB display and non-upgradable RAM?

Do you not have to use a wired nic? All of these require a dongle.

Out of those the x1 carbon would be my choice. Business grade laptops are going to have more consistant qc.

Budget really isn't an issue, although I don't want to be overpaying just because.

Max weight would be about 3lb/1.4kg

I'd like to get at least six or more hours on normal usage (not videos or gaming).

The sRGB matching is not going to be a huge deal, although (ofc) I don't want something completely horrible. Not going to be doing much content authoring on this thing.

Obviously the more upgradable the better, but these days you're lucky if you get to replace the storage.

No need for NIC. Primarily always will be on wifi (my desktops are on 10gbit but for a laptop, wifi is fine).

Huawei Matebook X Pro perhaps?  It's only 14" though.

Do you have one? I'm a bit worried about support. I've heard from a little birdie that if you purchase through MS they will run interference for you on support stuff.

I'm looking into replacing my old Samsung ultrabook with either the Huawei or an XPS13.  Still on the fence, but that's not a bad thing because we're still waiting for the new model to appear in stores here.

I went ahead and grabbed a Matebook last night. Specifically because it's not the 2019. Current one is on discount, and the new one doesn't have much I need. So far so good.

If you would like to invest in eGPU in the future, you should go with Thinkpad X1 (I am assuming you will purchase the 2018 model). If not, LG Gram since it is very light.

Fine with 14 inch? Also, would it be better if you can give an absolute max budget
