Is my CPU bottleneck or problem to my performance issue?

I bought Assasin Creed Origins and started playing it and I'm not getting a steady 50 to 60 FPS. Often it dips under 50.\

My system is GTX 1070, 16GB RAM and a i5 4670k.

I tried putting graphics from very high to all the way to medium in the presets and it's still doing it but overall a bit better. But still, I'm dipping under 50 and freaks me out.

Is my CPU the issue or maybe some odd setting?

4c/4t CPUs are not going to give consistent FPS in many newer games.

So what should I look into then?

6c/12t looks like it will be the new low end in 3-6 months.

Are you being serious right now? Plus AC: origins came out in 2017

Depends on memory speed and timings, CPU efficiency at given clocks & GPU.

Overpowering the system with a GPU the CPU will not ever be able to push fully is silly, that gives the sharpest dips in FPS.

Is why i went RX 570 with the Core i5.

Stinkpci5 3550. DDR3 1600mhz 8GB. Gigabyte GA-H61N-USB3.0. Sapphire RX 570 Nitro 4GB oc. Noctua NH-L12. WD Black 600GB. Silverstone PSU 1KW. Advent 1440x900 75hz VGA monitor 1ms. Acer Veriton M464 chassis.

Self help guide.

Dead serious.  R3 3300 looks to be 6c/6t at minimum, with prices expected to be in the ~$125 ballpark.

AC: O benefits from 8t last I checked, 4t resulted in pretty big FPS swings.  Quad core 4t CPUs have been mid range for YEARS now, why are you surprised that they were giving mid range performance in 2017?

Pretty sure the AC series dating back at least 3 years have been cpu hogs up to at least 8 threads. It's how they programmed the games. Your CPU is definitely the problem.

he's right, i wouldn't even build a 6/12 or 8/8 right now after looking at the newer games, just wait and see what zen 2 has to offer.
