I saw the 1994 movie and it was good. It has stupid moments but overall it wasn’t terrible. 

 

I started watching SG-1 after that & well... now it’s kinda good but sucks by episode 3~. It’s just so stupid. Between the insubordination, no shit Sherlock moments & other nonsense I’m beginning to wonder ...

when does the show get good? 

 

Don’t derail:

but Like game of thrones, red vs blue & more, the first few episodes are just boring/aweful. Is there a point when it does get good? If so when is it so I can skip ahead? 

 

Also general Stargate talk. I quite like the idea of the show & all that. 

After watching ancient aliens a bit, I can see a lot of inspiration from real life ancient alien theories.

That's really more a of a subjective kind of thing...
I personally loved it all. But I do have to admit the early episodes were kind of slow/bad though.

If you're looking for pew pew battles jump to season 3 although if that's what you like you should watch Atlantis instead.

 

Also what you saw in the movie has absolutely nothing to do with what happens in SG1, everything from the aliens to how the portal works is different.

 

It's like comparing Star Trek TOS to DS9, in one you'll find the lore and in the other just action moments or plots that are easier to understand without having to watch the whole show.

I am a huge Stargate fan and still sad the Universe show got canceled. I would love to know more about the blue aliens. 

I have read that a Stargate show of whatever sort is in the planning. I am really looking forward to.

I think they’re on season 3 of something new.

Battles are cool but I also like the exploration of ancient cultures. 

 

Maybe I’m misstating. I feel like the dialogue in early SG-1 is amateurish & stupid. The plots aren’t super interesting. I’m not interested in exploring a planet of cave people disease making everyone horny.

There are a lot of funny episodes, Sam was kinda like the Chandler (Friends) of the show so it's natural she has funny or weird comments about stuff other characters do, including aliens. There are also weird episodes that aren't exactly canon and don't follow the main storyline.

Stargate SG-1 is a bit campy at first. You need to get into Season 2-3 before it starts to get really good. Season 5 is when it becomes epic, and Season's 6, 7, and 8 are fucking gold (best of the show, also some of the best of Sci-Fi in general).

 

Season's 9 and 10 are interesting (some new cast members, and an overall story change) but not as great as the previous season.

 

If you love Sci-Fi (especially large scale fleet battles, etc), then you need to just burn through the first episodes until it starts to find it's stride.

 

If you get through to the end of Season 2, and you haven't liked a single episode, then you probably won't like the show ever. But if you can get that far and liked some here and there, keep watching.

The most recent entry to the Stargate universe is the Stargate Origins web series. I didn't even finish it because of how bad it was.

Not that I'm aware. There's no current Stargate TV series on the air.

Agreed - both are excellent parts of the show.

Season 1 had bad writing, straight up. There were some gems in there, but also a lot of junk. There were also way too many MacGuyver jokes (Richard Dean Anderson, who plays Colonel O'Neill, also played the infamous MacGuyver). It gets better.

I could not watch more than 5 minutes because it was so cringeworthy. The acting was bad and the low budget did the rest.

It was pretty awful. There was the occasional okay acting, but mostly it was really really bad. And yes their production budget was like $15 dollars that they found under some couch cushions.
