Please help finding highest graphics card for my PC

Xuthi

I'm looking for the highest level graphics card for my system without bottlenecking it. I'm looking to get at least a GTX 1060 or higher with 6gb or higher.

I usually play Minecraft, Siege and Apex Legends at the moment. Need help asap as I'm probably going to purchase a GPU within the next couple days.

I usually play on 1600x900 and have a 60 hz monitor

Computer specs:

Motherboard: Joshua-H61-uATX (This motherboard isn't the best)

CPU: Intel i7-3770  @ 3.40 Ghz 4 cores 8 logical processors

Current gpu: MSI GTX 950 2GB

Ram: 12 GB ddr3 ram  (4gb stick) and (8gb stick)

Power supply: 600w Cooler Master Elite ver 3.

Storage: 2 TB Seagate, Sata 7.2k RPM

Thank you so much!

3770 can handle a 1080 with no issues.

Uhh... You shouldn't really look for graphics cards by how much VRAM they have.

But the GTX 1080 has 8GB of GDDR5X.

Why is that? Isn't more VRAM better performance?

Nope...  The more VRAM the higher resolution you can play at like 4k resolution.  The most demanding game that takes up most VRAM is Quake Champions and it takes up 7.8GB of VRAM.  BF 5 and all those games are a bit lower then that.  The only reason to go with a 11GB Ti card is if you want to play at 4k resolution.

Asus Sabertooth x79 / 4930k @ 4500 @ 1.408v / Gigabyte WF 2080 RTX / Corsair VG 64GB @ 1866 & AX1600i & H115i Pro @ 2x Noctua NF-A14 / Carbide 330r Blackout

Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface / KRK Rokits 10" / Sennheiser HD 650 / Logitech G Pro Wireless Mouse & G915 Linear & G935 & C920 / SL 88 Grand / Cakewalk / NF-A14 Int P12 Ex
AOC 40" 4k Curved / LG 55" OLED C9 120hz / LaCie Porsche Design 2TB & 500GB / Samsung 950 Pro 500GB / 850 Pro 500GB / Crucial m4 500GB / Asus M.2 Card

Hmm well I am thinking of maybe increasing my resolution to 1920x1080 if my PC can handle it properly, and still play on 60 hz which amount of Vram would you recommend for that?

Not necessarily. I think you've got a lot of research to do on specs of a graphics card. More VRAM is better for textures and high resolution gaming, but the type of VRAM also makes a big difference (HBM, GDDR5, GDDR5X, etc.). You also have to consider the number of CUDA cores (or stream processors), the core clock, the memory clock, power, etc. Also, a GTX 1080 is overkill for a sub-1080p 60Hz monitor. You'd be better off with a 1060 6GB.

Stop talkiing about VRAM. There's more to a graphics card than just that.

I would pick a 2060 or a 1060, with a 1060 you will play those games on high at more than 60 fps ,  with a 2060 if you switch to high refresh rate monitor , or update your cpu you will have a better gpu and with better future, My girlfriend plays with a 1060 apex legends without a problem with a 7500

Case: Corsair 760T  |  Psu: Evga  650w p2 | Cpu-Cooler : Noctua Nh-d15 | Cpu : 8600k  | Gpu: Gygabyte 1070 g1 | Ram: 2x8gb Gskill Trident-Z 3000mhz |  Mobo : Aorus GA-Z370 Gaming K3 | Storage : Ocz 120gb sata ssd , sandisk 480gb ssd , wd 1gb hdd | Keyboard : Corsair k95 rgb plat. | Mouse : Razer deathadder elite | Monitor: Dell s2417DG (1440p 165hz gsync) & a crappy hp 24' ips 1080p | Audio: Schiit stack + Akg k712pro + Blue yeti.

Lol sorry, well which one would you recommend for gaming? I'm researching a bunch of different things as we speak

I'm looking to keep my current CPU as it costs quite a bit to upgrade it while my motherboard and ram are still outdated, not sure if this will effect performance so just trying to swap out the gpu as I just replaced the power supply to 600w from 460w.

If its a good psu you can do any of those gpus without problem, I had a 2500k + rx 480 8gb , then I switched to a 4790k + 1070, then switched my 4790k for a 8600k. The only thing that you should worry on your setup (if psu is fine) is when you gaming + anything on the background keep your cpu usage checked, because those older cpu are good enough to play with a 1070 even a 1080, but with high fps and newer games, your cpu usage will be almost 100% , and 100% cpu usage  = stutter.

The amount of VRAM doesn't matter as long as you have enough.

The speed of VRAM does matter though, that's why it's worth it to OC.

A 1060 6GB will suffice for 1080p gaming at locked 60fps some AA and high quality settings.  Or grab the 2060.

Locked 60fps? Would it be better for my PC to get a higher refresh rate monitor? I'm trying to get at least smooth 150+ fps even if that means having to get a better monitor?

150+ is going to be a struggle with that CPU.  A better target would be ~90, depending on the game of course.

I would also say that the bottleneck is most likely the monitor and not the cpu. A 3770 is still capable.

I would look a 1080p monitors with 100+ Hz, maybe even freesync plus something like a rx 580/ gtx 1060 or even 2060 if you have the budget for it.

As a user of that generation of CPU's, 100+ FPS is going to be out of the question in nearly every game without a pretty heavy OC (4.6ghz+).

60-100 is where you will be in most games.  Some games even drop to ~40, but those are primarily MMO's.

get an rx570 or 580 if you're on a budget. get a 1060 or 1660 if you're not.
