GPU for 1440p monitor

Ponpopo

I currently have a gtx 980 which is starting to struggle with more demanding games recently due to its 4gb vram. I'm saving up as much as i can but i don't think i can pay much more than $400. What is the best value card that can handle 1440p 60Hz hopefully 1-2 years. I've thought about a used 1070 or a 1660ti but they probably won't last for that long and I'm thinking either a used vega 64 or a new 2060. What would be the better option?

If you can find a used 1070 for around 250 I would go with that, otherwise stick to the 1660ti

How long do you think a 1070 would last before it gets obsolete and can't play games at 1440p?

As long as a 2060

the 970 still give good frames at 1080p nowadays

Thanks for all the help, I will probably settle for a 1070. Sorry for asking so many questions but how much do you reckon i can get for a used 980?

I'd say wait a little for Vega 56 price cut to hit in your area and get that one. IMO it's a better buy than the 1660Ti and it should actually be a little cheaper very soon.

EDIT: Here's one for 279$ already: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bfdxFT/msi-radeon-rx-vega-56-8gb-air-boost-video-card-rx-vega-56-air-boost-8g-oc

I'll keep an eye out for that. Do you think the price cut will hit Sweden?

Not sure how the pricing is at your place but for that money I could get a 1070Ti here in europe.

I've checked and they're at about $500 new here in sweden so thats not an option and the used market is very small so there i couldn't even find a single one.

Then rather stick with the Vega 56. But I wouldn't go below 1070 Ti or Vega 56 card for a 1440p monitor. I have one myself and you won't be happy with weaker cards.

Is the 1070 too weak?

I would say so. But it depends on what you want to play. 1070 Ti is nothing more than a locked 1080. And between 1070 and 1070 Ti is a huge difference.

If some 1070 Ti pops up for the right price, i would get it,like someone already said, its almost a 1080 and it can perform like one quite easily.

Yeah, it's just a matter of time. It should cost around the same as the 1660Ti while being faster and it has more VRAM.

Ryzen 2600 Stock
GTX 1060 6Gb (2100Mhz OC)
Also having a 1440p monitor, BO4 ~85FPS, CSGO 300+, BF5 was about 100-110FPS.
I would go with 1660ti or a used 1060 6GB.

AMD FX8320 | GTX660 | 4x4GB DDR3 | LG ZR2740W

Logitech Wireless Pro  | Logitech G413 | Nuforce uDAC5  | AKG K612

a 1660 ti is basically a 1070, given that a 1660 ti is only 280usd, 250 for a used 1070 is not a good deal at all, needs to be around 220 and below.

For new i'd go with the 1660 ti or the 2060, for newer AAA titles i think the 2060 is the better deal.
