From GTX1080 to ..... ?

What would you guys do? My GTX1080 is gone and I'm looking for upgrade to either GTX1080Ti or RTX2080... Ti is expensive for me atm.

Whichever is cheaper between 1080Ti and 2080. At the same price go for 2080.

Well, I can find used 1080Ti's in Germany and Austria for ~550€-620€ but not sure about that route... I feel that I might get screwed by future Nvidia updates that will certainly go in favour RTX series.

They've been shown to not do that over the years, so don't worry about that in your decision making process.  If you do, you'd have to buy every new generation upon release.

RTX for features no.> I (and I think all do) recommend 2080 because its newer , 1080ti is from 2017 , If there was a new 10 series this year we will recommend that. Its better for warranty and support.

GTX 1080 Ti if money saving is of any different to you... the RTX 2080 if you want brand new feeling and money not an issue... both are identical at conventional Rasterization without Ray Tracing features, which as we know only exists in 2 games.

What do you mean by its gone ?  It broke ?  I wouldn't upgrade, as its a sorta a sidegrade.  The 1080 is very relevant even after 3 years since it has been out.  It has not aged.  However if the card is broke then what is your budget ?

Heheh, actually 1080 been out since 2016.  Also you are correct its newer tech new features and Ray Tracing.  If hes gonna do it pull the trigger on the 2080 RTX and don't look back.

I was using my GTX1080 since 2016 and today it was gone for 400€ before it depreciates even more in market value so now I'm in for Ti or RTX :) I'm not in a hurry though

As a fellow 1080 owner, i went to an RTX 2080 Ti and in all but the highest end games or the highest resolutions will you notice a difference

Metro Exodus mate, they have Ray Tracing Global Illumination and DLSS implemented.

 

Honestly I am addicted on good story driven single player campaigns with max eye candy however I still feel the differences are nearly imperceptible and Ray Tracing is really not worth it's premium price tag yet.

 

DLSS? meaningless when I can meet my monitor's resolution and refresh rate natively.

Yup its a sidegrade.  You do lose the Ray Tracing and DLSS but I don't think that is relevant right now with only couple games supporting it.

You're missing OP's point, he no longer has his old GTX 1080 so he is deciding between the 1080 Ti and 2080, it's not about whether or not it's worth it, he simply needs a new GPU.

Well the thing is that many new games WILL support it as time goes by and maybe I could consider jumping on board RTX train :) But I've noticed that these 2080's have 8GB of VRAM and 1080Ti's 11GB....
