cpu Alternative to i7 6700K upgrade?

Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1275 v5 according to ARK is based on the FCLGA1151 chipset which would be found on my Z170M mobo. Could I use the E3-1275 v5 as a decent, cheaper alternative to the 6700K?

No, sell the Board, move Plattform.

That is cheaper and makes more sense.

 

In some areas a Ryzen 1600 or 2600 can be gotten for 150€ or less.

Those are illegal to sell as its only on loan from Intel.

And you don't know what of that is "ES", meaning the CPU can be total shit and barely work.

 

And Intel beeing Intel, I think they locked the Xeons from normal Desktop Boards as well...

So you have to look for people saying if it works or not.

In the end, the best solution is sell your Board and switch to new Plattforms and get a MoBo as well...

Especially since the 6700k is only a 4 Core CPU as well.

And 4 Core CPUs ain't too good these days...

Fair enough. It's going to suck loosing the QSV but hopefully the stronger CPU will help with x264
