Would using one of those cases with a bundled power supply be okay in this instance?

Specs:

A8 9600

4GB DDR4 2400Mhz

Asrock A320m HDV

5400RPM HDD

7200RPM HDD

I won't be overclocking or pushing the system too far and cooler master's PSU wattage calculator says I need around 180+ watts. I do understand the potential problems but I was just hoping it might work.

yes the problem with bundled psu's isnt really the watt amount its the reliability or longevity of the unit

Is there any way to tell the quality of the PSU? If anything I would upgrade the PSU as soon as I can which will be like in a couple months time since I want to save up and upgrade to a nice build over time.

How did you end up with that system configuration?

As far as cases with a built-in PSU, the only ones I'd even consider (and probably still pass over) are Rosewill, simply because I have tons of experience with that brand and have never had a bundled PSU go bad on me. That's not to say they won't, just that in very general use systems--think Pentium or T-chip--I haven't lost one yet.

Considering that CX and CXM units routinely go on sale for <$30, there's really no reason to chance it on a bundled PSU. You can get DIYPC and Rosewill cases for as low as $20, so if you grab a CX on sale for let's say $30, that's $50 together. The absolute cheapest case/PSU bundle I would even consider is a Rosewill that rings in at $58. It's cheaper to not burn your house down, both in terms of what it costs up front and regarding your insurance deductible.

CX sucks and no one should use it, CXM is good and you should use them, got my cx500m for 15 dollars on a eBay auction, brand new and still has its warranty

I apologize but I have no chance of getting those cases and power supplies for that price since I'm from the UK but I have tried looking for those before and I'll try looking again now.

I ended up with that system based on price. It is the cheapest new processor and motherboard I could find and the HDDs are from other and older computers.

The grey-label CX and CXM are basically the same unit, IIRC. Both are excellent budget PSUs for general use and entry level to midrange gaming rigs. The green-label CX and CXM from before 2015 are trash.

Here's the thing you have to understand, unless the MB power system dies on you nothing in your system should kill anything else in your system if it fails, and even then at worst you'd lose the CPU in addition to the MB.

When a PSU dies it can take absolutely any other component in the system with it, potentially, (i've had it happen, once), though rarely, the entire system.

In addition a low quality PSU tends to have bad voltage regulation which reduces the lifespan of everything else in the system. In effect everything else will die that much sooner because of the PSU.

Cheap PSU's are literally the worst cost cutting measure you can make, if you can't afford to spend a lot you probably can't afford to replace the system anytime soon, so a bad PSU is going to really get expensive in the long run as your going to spend a lot more a few years down the line replacing dead stuff than you would on the PSU. And if you've got plenty of money, (which doesn't sound like it's the case), paying for a good PSU isn't a big deal. You'd be much better off saving another £50 or so and getting a good PSU.

Thank you guys for the advice you've given me, I really appreciate it and love it when someone goes in depth and explains why people are scared of these PSUs.

What I'm gonna do is find a combo that I like and go with it for now and in the near future I'll buy a more suitable power supply.

If you have absolutely no idea about what you're talking about, please avoid spreading misinformation.

Paying $15 for a CX500M is way too much. It's an old group regulated PSU. You'd be better off paying a little more for the CX450, or even a grey label VS.

Not the same. The CX is newer, with slightly better internals and it's less prone to coil whine.

:)
