Possible to DIY your own ESD wrist strap?

Hello there,

since I am going to build my very first PC soon, I have heard a lot of how electrostatic discharge can destroy you pricey PC components.

According to many YT videos, it's a good idea to wear such an ESD wrist strap.

Now I was wondering if I can DIY it?

My idea is, to connect the one end of a crocodile clip to my power supply which is plugged in but turned of and the other end to

a piece of alluminum foil which I attach to my arm and fix it with a rubber band.

My question is, does this work or have I made a logical mistake?

Any help is apreciated.

It's just an extra precaution. Build in a place without surfaces that will build up static really easily. My living room is carpeted and would build up static, but if I do it in my dining room on the table I probably won't have any issues.

Rather than use aluminium foil, just wrap the bare wire tightly around a wrist or ankle.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

grab onto a wire, solder the other end of a wire to the top of a metal phillips screwdriver, stick in GROUND pin in wall socket. (NOT THE LIVE PINS)
