Can I change my laptops gpu? (K501)

There is a k501(gtx 950) so I think I can change my motherboard so I can get the gtx 950 right? If I’m not wrong the cpu and gpu are soldered on it. Currently I have the gt 940mx one

IDk? does the laptop have a thunderbolt port?

You would need to use an external GPU enclosure. Which only will work if you have a thunderbolt port, which judging by the photos I can find on your device. You Don't have.

Sorry, but you might be out of luck.

As you guys can see on the images below

the only difference between the two laptops below is one called uq and ux

but the ux has a gtx 950 so it has one more fan and a longer heatsink

so my question is if I buy the ux motherboard and swap out the uq motherboard it should work right?

and for your information, gpu and cpu goes with the motherboard

Unfortunately even if possible it is unlikely you will find someone who has swapped that motherboard into that chassis. Usually the chassis are not identical. They may skip drilling and tapping some holes, or machining out some vents, etc. On top of that they may not use the same connectors or the same ribbon cables.

To top that off the motherboards cost more than buying a more powerful used laptop whole. So even if you manage to do so, why?

Well I found one for around 120 usd (including gpu and cpu) and I’m doing this for fun

Shouldn’t it be the same? Because it’s the same model same chassis just different gpu
