Need some help with RAM overclocking

So for xmas i built my second computer. I recently learned that ram doesnt start speed isnt what you buy it as and you have to overclock it to have it at a higher speed. I have 3200mhz trident z rgb ram paired with a ryzen 2700x on a asus crosshair xii hero (wifi) motherboard. Now when i went into the bios and overclocked the ram i set to 3200mhz and pc wouldn't start. so i lowered it to 3000mhz and booted with no issues. So i was wondering why i cant get it to 3200mhz. any information or advice is greatly appreciated.

Make sure your BIOS is up to date, AMD has released SEVERAL AGESA updates for RAM compatibility and stability. Afterwards you may need to adjust your RAM timings and voltage to get it stable. Here's a nice Techquickie video on understanding RAM timings:

Wrong timings won't mess up the RAM, but setting voltage higher than like 1.5V definitely will.

What's the voltage set to for DRAM? When I used that motherboard I went up to 3600 on my Flare X Samsung b die. I think at 3200 I left it on auto but I adjusted it manually to go higher.

I think you can tell with HWInfo, you should download that anyway. Run it with 'sensors only' and scroll down to Memory. Im not on the computer so bare with me.

Are you using DOCP to set your RAM speed, voltage, and timings?

And did you install the RAM into the correct slots?

So when you change Memory Frequency to 3200 it fails to boot?

Yes it will get to the splash screen for the mother board and then it will error out and says the motherboard returned to base settings or somthing along those lines

Go into External Digi+ and scroll to the bottom.  There you can set the DRAM Boot Voltage to something higher.  1.4V will get the job done and not hurt anything.  If that doesn't work then try a little more DRAM voltage.  Something like 1.36V or a touch more if needed.

So I went to go change the setting you suggested but it doesnt allow me to change it.

DRAM VBoot Voltage is what we need.  You can't type a value into the field?

It's present so I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to type into the field.  If you can't though see if once it's selected you can use the + key to increase the value to something like 1.45V.  It isn't the operating voltage so I wouldn't worry about setting it too high.
