how to connect without shorting

SmilesRising

Hi! Im trying to connect a lcd-panel using a molex connector for the 5v. i found a schematic online that shows where the 5v is supposed to go but when i but the 5v there the thing shorts?

The LCD-panel is from a Dell E193FPp monitor and what i can see the 5v should be connected to 13 in the picture..

(blurry pic can't find high res)

do you mean the 5v on the molex? i have the other pin (12v) connected to a led light strip so i thought the other would be 5v

...use a voltmeter before you start something on fire...

so a molex connector can send out a different voltage even though it says 5v on the pin?

have you ever heard the saying, "Trust, but verify."? ...it applies here.

If it's truly 5v, and you aren't screwing up your connections, i'd say you have a bad part.

im not sure if im screwing up the connector or not. All i could find online was the picture in the first post. its blurry but pin 12 and 13 is 5v so i assumed that was the right way, maybe im wrong..

The voltmeter says 5.16V i dont know how exakt that is but thats what i got. on the board its marked 5v over these wires but the schematics says otherwise.

The other end of that wire ()the one that's shorting), does it feed to ground?

i think it goes to ground yes, i tried putting the 5v on both pins that say 5v over it but i shortens on both

any resistance between that wire and ground, or is it a dead short?

i don't really know what you mean by that? not sure if there is any resistance or not.. on the board there is only 2 wires that how voltage when i put my voltmeter pins on them.
