New PC not running as smooth as it should

LanceZ

Hi, I bought a new pc since August but didn't get around to troubleshoot it properly due to college and stuff..

Here's my specifications:

CPU: i3-8100

GPU: GTX 1050ti 4gb

Mobo: B360 HD3 Gigabyte

PSU: Bitfenix Formula 650w 80 PLUS Gold

RAM: Crucial 4x2 GB 2400mhz

OS: Windows 10 Pro

Monitor: Philips 170B 720p @75hz

Problem is, it is not running as it should, it doesn't feel smooth when I am playing games.. even when I am on edge/google chrome or just dragging a window..

I know because I used to play fps games on other pcs and from youtube videos..

There's no any noticeable fps drops, except maybe on old games and dunno if they even should behave like that.. and there's this CPU red light that is solid and doesn't disappear but sometimes it goes away.. that's even after the PC opens and I am playing games.

Basically mouse movement is choppy or jittery and mouse cursor jumps up and down when I move the cursor horizontally on desktop. Ingame, moving with keyboard ASDW is normal but turning with mouse is not smooth.

Games I played: Skyrim, CSGO, and stronghold crusader 1(even this is not smooth.).. feels choppy despite high fps.. 250+ on CSGO and 140+ Ultra on Skyrim legendary and yet I don't know If I could achieve more..

Things I have tried:

- Installed Windows 10 multiple times

- Played with the Nvidia settings (Don't know if there's something specific I have to do)

- Uninstalled Nvidia experience

- Uninstalled GPU drivers with DDU and installed the latest drivers 417.

- Power plan is set at High performance

- Confirmed that it's not virus as problem persists with each new windows install.

- Monitor dvi cable is connected to GPU.

Things you must know:

- I have a laptop Logitech mouse that is old (2002)

- The monitor that I have is old.. and tried with another old monitor (Acer) same results.

- I had an old pc that ran skyrim on very low settings and it didn't feel jittery when turning with mouse.

- I get headaches when I play.

Note: I did update my BIOS before to the latest version but didn't fix the red light or what I am experiencing in games. However, now it says 3 new versions are present and the latest says:

1. Update CPU microcode

2. Improved system performance and stability.

Did you run DDU in safe mode ?  That is what you should do... go to msconfig  and boot and say safe mode,, reboot it goes into safe mode and run DDU then boot back up to normal and install nvidia latest 417.xx      ......  DDU can not remove everything unless run from safe mode.  good luck

If things still run the same and slow then I say the culprit is the video card,,,  its not a software issue as you have tried all these things to no avail.  Try a temporary card and see how she plays... good luck.....

Installed NVS 310 instead and played an old fps.. I noticed it's more smoother but this game specifically I used to get fps drops maybe due to poor optimization so yes I still get drops but probably due to bottleneck.. this is an exception

CSGO couldn't tell as fps is too low it's already lagging.

I'll download other games like skyrim and see how it performs

I didn't say fact... Its just hinting me it can be the physical video card.  Just my hunch not really a fact more of a opinion.  When was your rig running properly with this video card you have now ?

i still suggest buying a 40dollar ssd and put your games on it and see if it fixes the problem. Your problems are awfully similar to what i ran into b4 ssds came out, sometimes mechanical drives just do funky stuff due to age.

I have tried to plug the the dvi cable into the motherboard and Monitor doesn't show anything like black screen as if I didn't connect them.. Does this point to a defective mobo? That would explain why the Solid cpu red light, right?

When you talk about FPS, do you have actual numbers or just how you feel the games are playing?

That is when I used another low end gpu.

As I said before It's the feeling of the game.. It feels jittery when I turn around with mouse not smooth at all.. Despite high fps.

Here's a video exactly similar to my problem:

You're not trying to game with Chrome open are you? Until an update or two ago that program would use memory like hell and still hold onto it long after closing tabs. It could bring my system to its knees with 16GB of RAM if I had watched a few youtube videos and not completely closed Chrome. Seems to have been fixed in the last couple of Chrome updates though so if your Chrome is updated it's maybe not that. But can't imagine how fast it would chew through 8GB.

My fps is matching my refresh rate 144 but it's not smooth and also the desktop is not smooth while moving windows or scrolling. I think it's a hardware problem

i also got high fps but not smooth on 75hz. Despite trying every solution I could find, the problem still persists. Maybe I'm concentrating on the smoothness of the game too much and it's not a software problem. Then I switched to 60hz and played a game for a while.it feel laggy. After I changed to 75hz, it felt smooth and responsive. It's probably because you're focusing too much on smoothness. I don't think about the smoothness of the game anymore, and it feels smooth. Does that make sense?

Also im gaming on window 11 too
