I currently have a 4790k.

Recently got a 2080ti.

4k gaming machine.

But what's the point of upgrading cpu from what I can tell cpu upgrades beyond 4790k don't benefit 60fps gaming. And even if I had 120 fps monitor I still be gpu limited.

Convince me I'm wrong....

Nah.

It's up to you what type of performance is satisfactory. If you like what you have, stick with it.

non-optimized titles like Assasin's creed, or CPU heavy titles like BF4.

although 4k is GPU bound, LTT's end of year review showed Ryzen lagged behind Intel in 4k performance in games (which was a surprise)

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

I mean depends on what you mean by upgrade path. Nothing better on that socket. I have a 4790K and 1080 ti and it is definitely holding back a 1080 ti in some games. Obvious upgrade if you want the very best would be a 9900K.

R u running 1440p i assume. What games r held back???

This.  While the 4790K is fine, you will see a bump in FPS from upgrading CPU.

Things running at a really high FPS like  E-Sports titles and then anything open world with a lot of assets. Battlefield games, Far Cry, Watch Dogs 2, stuff like that.

Nutshell:  If you can afford a 2080Ti, you can afford the CPU that should go with it.

Should be incredibly obvious.

Yes, there's definitely an upgrade in performance with a better cpu. How much better will depend on the game.

If you're happy with the performance you have, don't upgrade any further for the time being. If you're not happy with your performance, upgrade, but be aware that upgrading means a new motherboard and new RAM, too. There's nothing better on LGA 1150 than the 4790K you already have.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Hold tight for a while, you are good. There is no need for 4K unless you have a Playstation or Xbox, get a 1440p

My upgrade path has been DDR-400 > DDR-800 > DDR-1600 and skipping DDR4 till DDR5 comes out.

CPU i7 4960x Ivy Bridge Extreme | 64GB Quad DDR-3 RAM | MBD Asus x79-Deluxe | RTX 2080 ti FE 11GB |
Thermaltake 850w PWS | ASUS ROG 27" IPS 1440p | | Win 7 pro x64 |
