Security issues with Chinese phones?

I was planning to buy a Chinese phone like the mi mix 3. But was wondering if they as well as other Chinese companies give their data to the Chinese government. I am concerned about the security on their phones but is it a big issue?

btw I’m using a iPhone at the moment and I know that there security is pretty good thanks in advance

Yes, Huawei is suspected of having a red phone to Chinese intelligence.

You can never be sure whats being sent where by any companies smart devices, but Chinese devices are especially suspect.
