Is kingpin upgrading their motherboard's for overclocking?

I would like to get your opinion on it but I understand this topic is beyond the average teckie, that's why I made this a pole.

 

Also just in case you don't know kingpin is the champion of overclocking

 

By upgrading their motherboards, the only thing I could think to upgrade would be the vrms.

 

And they could be upgrading them with Overkil custom vrm's or removing and testing all of them.

 

I couldn't find the video where Linus repaird a motherboard, one of the capacitors expanded & broke, and they replaced it with a capacitor from a similar motherboard.

 

and if it's possible to upgrade the vrms I don't understand why kingpin wouldn't be doing it.

They don't make Kingpin motherboards. Only kingpin branded hardware is the Graphics cards to my knowledge.

I'm talking about a person calling themselves kingpin, you know the person Linus and jayz2cents talk about in their overclocking videos

They don't modify the motherboards as companies will build them to spec for extreme LN2 and liquid helium style overclocking. I know he only uses dark rock boards now so there is that

The boards used by K|NGP|N are incredibly high quality boards with very high quality VRM components, but they are still mass produced boards. Unmodified isn't quite true, they will put grease and waterproof mats around where they are cooling to prevent condensation from damaging the board, as well as mounting socket coolers to keep the CPU socket unfrozen, but electrically the boards are unmodified.

I highly doubt he is upgrading VRM's. VRM's are nearly impossible to upgrade in the first place and if your motherboard is shitty enough to have bad VRM's then you're a tard sandwich for overclocking to that extreme on it. VRM's have come a long way and you'd have to COMPLETELY re-engineer the circuitry as it's been pre-optimized for the existing VRM's behavior.

Vince might have his own overclocking BIOS that with various limits removed and other optimisations. As far as actual hardware mods, that's not really necessary. You could solder a EPOWER V onto the board if you wanted to, but you've more than enough power with the VRM on a Z390 DARK/X299 DARK.

 

Just like the KPE BIOS that exists for the GPUs, it is the one that should be used, but of course you'll need to get it from either OCN or kingpincooling. Just a preventative measure to stop noobs killing their hardware.

So maybe kingpin doesn't need to modify their boards, but how much Hardware do they have to go through to get the perfect system?

 

Hundreds, thousands, do you think King pen gets access to Bree benchmarked Hardware? Or do you think they just have this setups to liquid nitrogen overclock 100 CPUs a week?

There's no "they", kingpin is a person and not a brand of motherboard manufacturer
