As of tomorrow Nvidia cards should support FreeSync as well.

No only 12 so far are "approved by Nvidia", other monitors will also support it but just don't meet Nvidia's requirements. I would read more about this if I were you, where I live there are some G-Sync monitors for under 400, but they are all 1080p TN panels.

Wait a couple days after Nvidia is reviewed on freesync displays. Chances are it won't be that bad as long as you have a good freesync display. I can't see it being any worse than AMD freesync (compared with  Nvidia on freesync), honestly.

I'd wait for the drivers to release and for 3rd party reviewers to take a closer look at monitors that are not "approved by Nvidia" to see whether it's worth the trouble. If it turns out to be good I would just choose a nice FreeSync monitor. I'm sure Linus and the gang will do this (I think you can suggest topics in some way but I'm not sure how).

The problems with TN panels are color accuracy and viewing angles mostly. You should just google TN vs VA vs IPS and you will get a way better explanation of the three techniques than I would be able to give, and most of them have pictures.
