According to people on reddit, it's not real: https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/5gf1zh/old_toshiba_laptop_with_a_vhs_player/

I can also more or less prove this by pointing out how very unlikely you could fit an entire VHS mechanism in something the size not more than a inch higher than the tap itself. Practically all VHS players were about double the height of a tape because the mechanism to load a tape was it had to drop onto the rotors that spooled the tape around. The amount of space, just for the mechanics itself alone, would've taken up too much space for there to be any actual computer and battery.

reddit people if they can be called that way, are a bad joke.

That'd almost be as heavy as my Micron Laptop from the early 2000s. That fella was an absolute unit.

Can’t recall anything like this. What would the use case be?

I can tell you right now that you can't fit an entire VHS player (and recorder as a matter of fact) into a laptop like that.

Tapes don't wind up straight in, they get pushed down for various reasons. Remember how the US-model NES was designed? Yeah, like that, except it served a purpose.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

Yep, the one shown is fake, VHS tapes require the motor that spin it's sprockets/reels to rise up into it, etc. So obviously the person who photoshopped this failed to account for that.

Here's the photo of the real thing if you wanted VHS on a laptop back then:
