monitor not running at advertised speed

i recently bought the optix MAG24c gaming monitor from msi and the advertised speed is 144hz. i was told by a friend that for the monitor to run at its advertised refresh rate you need to change a setting in windows so i followed the steps to change the refresh rate but the settings only go up to 120hz. does any one know how to fix this?

seems like the HDMI can only go up to 120Hz, so you need to use a displayport cable
