Hi, im looking forward to buy a new pair of headphone with a budget of around 250$. I mostly play video games and listen to music. For the gaming side, i love it when the bass is punchy, when you feel the gunshots and the explosions. As for the music, i love to hear all the small details of a song. I know that audio stuff can be hard to choose but im sure there is something out here for me.

You want to have super loud base but also want to be able to hear all the finer details. Damn that is a hard thing to find because usually excessive base drowns out the finer details.

Yeah i know, i might have to split it into 2 different pair

why? m50x are great headphones for the price, especially for music

One thing tho about audio creation hardware (wich the m50x seems to be) is that it should have a flat eq, ive never had something with a relatively flat eq

Also, on multiple occasion i read/heard that surround sound 7.1/5.1 is sorta useless. But in games like r6s or pubg i do feel that it could help. I also play on ps4 and pc

7.1 is quite useful. I have had many times where it has let me know exactly where someone is coming from and react fast enough to even have the jump on them. I use a pair of hyperx cloud II. They have decent sound quality and good 7.1. I wouldn't describe them as being overly basey though and have the more clean sound.

Are the sennheiser 598 a good pair?

They are a great pair of headphones.  I was going to recommend Sennheiser.  Their collaboration with massdrop on the Sennheiser HD 6XX are another great option.

These are open back headphones so you'll get a 'fuller' sound stage and are suitable for home listening.

Nope, I bought both the open and closed ear HD 598 and I didn't like any of them. They just sound too "smooth" for normal use.

Just get a ATH-M50x.

I really don't like Sennheiser's signature sound, that's all I can say.

Loads of people recommending m50x for gaming. What a time to be alive @Dackzy!

We shouldn't have left the audio subforum, lmao.

Edit:

OT @Wolfire

Check out this gear recommended by the actual audiophile subforum.

I can't really speak for them as I haven't tried them but the AD500X or the better 700X are considered great gaming cans because they have actual Soundstage, unlike the m50x.

stay away from the M50x, they are pretty horrible for their price now. Muddy mid-bass bloat that bleeds into the lower mids and makes them bad, weird mids with a dip so they sound both widthdrawn in the lower mids, but they also have forward upper mid and then the sharp treble. Plus they have a very small soundstage and not very good imaging. They have just been hyped a ton by youtubers and people that are new to this field.

If you want closed, then I would look at the AKG K550 or K553, it is the same headphone they just have a different name depending on where you are in the world. For open I would say AD900x, K612 though neither of them have bass that will make the headphones shake or feel a explosion unless you turn them up quite a bit, at least not compared to a closed headphone like the K550/553.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M
