Yep, standardized to fit common parts. (Unless it's extremely old or proprietary, which you should not even consider looking at)

Ok..

But I think this setup is going to be good?

What is best for gaming..?

What would you choose?

intel is king, but the 2600 goes on par or does better in gaming than a 8400, so valuewise a 2600 is better imo

I like it, but the Ryzen recommendations that floated in are also good

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I'm not sure about prices for you. Between an i5 8400+B360 board combo and an R5 2600 + B450 board combo I would just get whichever would end up cheaper.

Ok so I5 8400 is good for many years?

If you say it's good I believe you:p

But what if I drop in a Ryzen 2600x?

Is that going to make a difference?

not really, as the 2600x is nothing more than a 2600 that can hit higher turbo speeds. i would rather get a good cooler for the price difference. the t4 isn't something i mean, the freezer 33 esports one is more like what i mean

gamingwise a 8600k gets the edge in more single treaded games, the 2600 in multitreaded games. so it really depends per game, you could still get a 8600k/9600k, not going to stop you, but at the moment i can't justify the huge increase in price between intel and amd chips.

btw, i bought mine before the shortage, so i didn't pay that much for it

I'm going to try fallout 76 when I get my new pc..

the stock cooler is pretty good actually, but if you want to overclock more than a little bit, you'll need a new cooler.
