You wouldn't need to scrap your mobo, with a BIOS update it'll work with Ryzen 3000.

It's likely going to be quite a performance jump, if epyc is anything to go by, and don't bother replacing the motherboard, it kinda defeats the purpose of the AM4 socket longevity.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k (won) - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Linux Proliant ML150 G6:

Dual Xeon X5560 - 24GB ECC DDR3 - GTX 750 TI - old Seagate 1.5TB HDD - dark mode Ubuntu (and Win7, cuz why not)

How many watts do I need? Seasonic Focus thread, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Why? X variants and regular ones are both equally overclockable. Even on a B-series mobo.

my minimum expectations right now is 4.7 with an ipc=intel, if thats the case, we are talking about a 50% bump over the 1600 in gaming with a set of fast ram. Whether that's worth an upgrade is up to you.

In general the b350s have terrible VRMs aside from MSI's 4+2 controller with 4x2 power phase boards, which are discontinued from what I can tell.(nobody has msi b350 gaming pro carbon in stock) and the tomohawk is the middle ground for budget/overclock ability with good VRMs for less thermal throttling.

Now they do, they never used too. Especially for the b360 micro atx vrms....god those things were awful. MSI really stepped it up with the b450 series of motherboards both the tomahawk and the mAtx Mortrar

Don't make a blanket statement like "B350 has trash VRMs" without doing your research.

Here's a very helpful chart for VRM tiering on the B450/X470 chipsets.

I find it hilarious how you think you know more than the folks over at overclockers

But hey, if you think you have the knowledge everyone needs, that's fine. Just don't share that knowledge.

And I'm going off topic again, so I'll stop.

Don't be like your penguin.....if you can't stand others opinions then stay off the webs.

Also who says I know more than overclockers? I was just stating the facts that you posted with the chart. It specifically says that the gaming k4 is on the lower spectrum....lol

Anyways before the salty penguin started taking things personally, lets get back to the convo.

I think the 3000's will be a significant performance boost over the cpu you have now. Others in this post have stated that as well. You could get away with an x470 right now. You could use an x470 with a 3000's with a bios update of course.

nobody knows for sure tho
