set your network connection to metered, disable windows update service, disable scheduled tasks of updateorchestrator

If I disable Windows update service without Scheduled tasks of Updateorchestrator and metered network connection then Windows Update service will re-enable itself later on.

I would try blocking the addresses i listed above in the build-in firewall,

If you wanna try another thing you can edit your local group policy. gpedit - computer configuration - administrative templates - windows components - windows update - configure automatic updates - and select disable

I haven't tested this on a computer not in a domain, but i don't see why it wouldn't work still.

What I am saying is I did try to disable Windows Update service but it re-enable itself later on. I did not set my network to metered or disable Scheduled Tasks.

You guys think that somewhere in the cosmos a species has invented a simple way to disable updates? I want to live on that planet.

I would recommend blocking the addresses then if metered connection isn't doing it for you. As you are on a home edition reg edit or GPO won't work.

Why would you want to disable security updates? Disabling those is akin to being an anti-vaxxer where you're endagering yourself and the people around you e.g. if your device becomes part of a botnet.

You can defer feature updates like the pesky October update for over a year. Just go to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options  and choose to be on the semi-annual channel + deferred days.

You can also disable updates by permanently disconnecting your device from the internet.

The latest update microsoft forced on my PC broke Free-sync on my display and made free-sync cause flickering.

Microsoft no longer tests updates before sending them out and forcing them on everyone's machines.

In addition you may not want your PC randomly decided to restart or shutdown, or you want your machine state to always be constant.

Yes, but security updates. Why disable those too?

Because they don't test them, and it's still in the same boat of issues.

I'm sure they sit around eating cupcakes all day, not worried about the coporations paying them billions of dollars a year to have stable and secure systems.

1) I don't like automatic update

2) It interfere with my work

3) Issues like 1809 first issue

4) Manual update > Automatic update
