Yep. You'd have to weigh the costs. The OP wants a gaming rig that is upgradeable. Intel at the current time has the best performing CPUs for gaming, however at the lowend to midrange AMD can out perform or at least equal Intel performance. The thing is once you reach that equilibrium, Intel becomes a better option, not necessarily for value but for performance. The biggest problem with Intels value is I believe their lower to mid end chips have seen price increases.

 

The 1060 is at that level where only single or near single threaded games would be better on Intels offering. Exceptions obviously exist and do apply.

 

Personally for my own use I'd probably get a Ryzen based CPU, because i am more of budget gamer, and wouldn't have the hardware to really take advantage of performance increases an Intel CPU may offer.
