Dead CPU?

Friend is working on building a new system, we assembled it and couldn’t get it to boot, we tested the video card in a different system and it works, we tested the power suplly, and mother board all are functional, but when we even try and boot with the bare minimum we get nothing, no lights, no fan, no nothing. Is it a possibility that the 8700k is dead, or is it a memory issue( we have no way of testing it but it’s new Corsair vengeance memory). Would turning on the power supply cause the aio to start functioning and because it’s not connected properly could that be causing the system not to boot? Any and all help is appreciated

Need complete specs - if your AIO pump and fans aren't plugged into the appropriate ports on your mobo which can cause it to shut down because its drawing more power than the place you have it socketed is supposed to give.  Or maybe your motherboard doesn't support a Pump header?  Need specs.

A quick google search said this mobo has a Pump Header on it - is your pump connected to that?

The three pin is connected to the 4 pin header labeled cpu fan, and the SATA cable attached to the pump is connected to the psu

Yep. 6th and 7th if memory serves me right, have had my i7 6700k in both a z170 and a b250 board over time.

Z270 will only work with 8th gen processors by manually inserting the microcodes into the Bios (using flash tools and an existing working processor), and then doing a pin mod to the CPU to insulate several pins from contact with the socket.  A 9900K was modded to boot in a Z170 board.  But this is impossible at stock and no manufacturers ship any 8th gen compatible bioses with Z270...you have to force mod it yourself.

RMA the 8700K and grab a 7700K as an exchange RMA, unless you are actually brave and skilled enough to insert microcodes into the UEFI Bios (which STILL requires a working CPU to software flash, or a SPI programmer and another computer to insert microcodes and then hardware flash with a programmer.

 

tl;dr: exchange the CPU :)

You need an H310, B360, B365, H370, z370, or z390 chipset motherboard to support 8th gen or newer Intel processors. Since the CPU is an 8700k I recommend getting a z370 or z390 chipset board since z series chipsets support overclocking on k sku Intel CPUs. z370 will do just fine.

 

That or get a 7700k to match your motherboard.

Oh yeah if it were me I would just get a diff board at that point lol - was surprised that I didn't notice he said 8 series and 2XX series board when I asked and notice the issue then

Yeah that works too :) You can even get a Z390 board for that 8700K if you want.  It's compatible, and then you are ready for a 10 or 12 core Intel CPU if they ever decide to make one for Z390 in the future.  Keep that in mind.  You don't have to settle for Z370 only.

Not my thread, was trying to help but didn't notice the OPs lack of compatibility till the other guy chimed in ;)
