Corsair makes RGB dimms that are fake ram

Looks like gigabyte started a nice trend.

Not bad, I actually like this trend. Now if they could make a trident Z kit, I would be set.

 

Is anyone opposed to something like this? They're not very expensive and they definitely improve looks. I know that rgb can be taken too far time to time but this seems great.

I just filled my other 2 slots with.... more ram!  Ram prices have dropped quite a bit.

If they made a TridentZ kit I'd buy it just so I can change the red plastic trim on my kit with black or white.  They didn't sell my kit with any color except red.

How nice, that you can afford to drop a couple hundred bucks for more RAM but not everone can afford that, as well as the fact that they still moly might not want to pay an extra 200 dollars just for a small aesthetic improvement. I am for this trend

I am against all thit crap.

 

Years ago more colorful hardware was considered to be crappy hardware. Good amplifiers was pure black (or white), suble, with a minimal amount of LEDs. Crappy, cheap boom boxes has thousand of nonsense lights that has nothing to do with quality, but guys who pay for color lights was happy. And people who wants good hardware don't even want to look at this piece of %@^. The same is about computers - lot of stickers or lights doesn't mean that hardware is good. Unless it's computer made especially for circus. Computer should be powerful but not intrusive - user should look at screen and work on computer, not look at computer case and be happy that he has lot of lights. What will be next? Dancing pc case with fountain at the top? Completely waste of money, energy and space. I prefer to have more storage space (for 6 HDD, 2 SSD etc.) than circus pc case.

RGB ram is expensive, especially nice kits. Not everyone wants more ram anyway. I would be able to afford 16GB more of ram, but I don't want to use 32GB, that amount is superfluous to me. I would love some flashy dimm covers to just fill in space.

So as a responsible adult i did this thing they call, "saving".  I initially had 16gb that i did purchase for about $200.  I saved another $200 to buy another 16, to realize that it was down to 150.  I can assure you i didnt fill all 4 slots just because it "looks cool".  The 32GB of ram is very functional.

As a responsible adult... not everyone blows 400 dollars on just RAM, and I honestly don’t see what is wrong with just buying it for aesthetics

"Looking good" is what I disagree. Fireworks looks good too - but in the sky at fireworks show, not inside my room, where I work. In computer lot of lights looks awful and cheap, like a computer for circus clown.

It's all subjective then. There's a reason the circus has had success after all.

My point was that Ram prices have come down, and you can get 32gb of Corsair RGB Pro for under 300....  Newegg currently has the 16gb, 2666 kit for 140....  That ram over clocks well.  I have the 3k kit overclocked to 3200, and can push it higher, but choose not to.  I am a firm believer of function over looks (better if i can have both), so saving a few bucks a paycheck for a few months to get what i really want is the route i go.
