120mm or 240mm Liquid Cooler

This my case Cooler Master MB500

 

And wanting to add a liquid cooler to Ryzen 5 2600x.  I am wanting to know if I should get a 120 or 240 mm setup and how to configure my fans.

How about an air cooler instead. They're much cheaper and quieter than high end AIO liquid coolers, while performing simliarly.

That case has 160mm of height clearance for the CPU cooler, so a Noctua NH-D15S is a good option.

For R5 2600x you could go with high end air cooler. It will perform miles better than 120mm AiO, and might even outperform 240mm depending on a model and setup. High end air cooler like Dark Rock Pro 4 is also cheaper than 240mm AiO.

 

AiO imo is a point of failure that can destroy your entire system in a spectacular fashion. I wouldn't go with AiO unless I was doing high end overclocking on highest end chip like 9900k or higher.

 

But if you really want liquid cooler, go with 240 because 120mm AiOs are crap in terms of performance per dollar.

120mm aio = decent air cooler

240mm aio = great air cooler

The only advantage is being able to change the location of your cooling surface. If you're ok with the cooler being on top of the CPU, just get a dark rock 4 or something.

I run a 120mm AIO on the Ryzen 7 1700 - its temps are perfectly fine, as this is a 65w TDP processor.

 

I run a 240mm AIO on my space heater - its temps are perfectly fine, as this is a 125w TDP processor.

 

Your CPU is a 95w TDP with a mild overclock on it already.  Id go ahead and get a 240mm AIO (believe me...they are quiet compared to any air cooler Ive ever used...once I went liquid Ill never go back)

corsair H60 2018 matches nearly every 240mm AIO and high end air coolers like NH-D15 (i know LTT forums fanboys over noctua), LGM, windale 6, drp4 etc. while being a 120mm AIO

 

I too could not believe my eyes when I first saw the benchmarks of a 120mm AIO matching 240mm AIOs and high end air coolers.

I have a 120mm AIO on my i5 8600 (non k), doesnt get remotely hot, even when multitasking (streaming video and gaming/editing)

The problem is that the air cooler I want are over 160mm.  So any recommendation on really good 120 mm and 240mm liquid cooler.

 

Anyone try or know about MasterLiquid ML120R RGB or MasterLiquid ML240R RGB
