I bought something on ebay and it said item location Arkansas but when it shipped it is coming from South Carolina. Is this sketchy? It's from a large outlet company so I would imagine maybe it's coming from a different warehouse but I am not sure.

If it's from a large company, than a different warehouse isn't a too far-fetched option.

 

If the company is based in Arkansas, then it would make sense that they list that as the location.

If it's from a large outlet company I wouldn't even question it. They will have different products stored at different warehousing locations, most probably.

Like Amazon. The specific product you order from them will dictate which of their facilities they ship from. They can't stock every single product they sell in every single location they operate from. Every one of their facilities would need to be huge. Yet they need to have multiple facilities to ensure speedy delivery to a wide area.

Seems fine to me as long as it's a large outlet company. If it's a smaller store then I would be a bit skeptical. I remember one time I bought something that said it was in China when it was really in the Solomon Islands.. It turned out to be legit but it's just an example of why you should be skeptical of that sort of thing happening with smaller stores.

It might be from one of the Amazon Fulfilled Marketplace vendros that advertise on eBay without disclosing the item will be pulled, packed, and shipped by Amazon. I personally feel this fraud. Except for e-books, I've been boycotting Amazon because of the errors they make picking orders, the poor job they do packaging, and their unbelievably incompetent carrier so I'm don't appreciate being hoodwinked into ordering something that will be picked, packed and shipped by Amazon. I found that listings that show the location is USA are probably Amazon so i won't order from them but, occasionally, one that has a City and State will be from Amazon and often will be shipped from a different city and State.

 

Another possibility is the lister is actually an unauthorized arbitrageur listing other vendors' products, collecting the money (along with a fee, of course), then ordering the product drop shipped to the customer. That is definitely fraudulent! eBay used to be lousy with them but it's not quite as bad as it used to be.

 

Something else that bites my ample asset are vendors that list under one (or more) name(s) but the money goes to someone other than the listed vendor.

I've never had those sorts of problems with amazon.. Apart from the time the delivery guy went home to watch a football (or soccer as americans call it) match and then didn't arrive until 8PM that night..

It happens too often to be surprising anymore. I frequently see ebay listings that say "Item location: London, UK" but then when you receive them it's got customs declarations and chinese text all over the package..

While I'm on a rant roll, I have problems with the current practice of vendors saying an order is shipped as soon as a shipping label is created. Many Chinese vendors do this to keep eBay off their backs when they take too long to actually ship an item. I'v had them report an item as havign been shipped ony to find out later they didn't even have it in stock, claiming "our warehouse was out". More likely, the bastards were unauthorized arbitrageurs.

That happens a lot here.. I'd imagine it's quite common in the States too.

I have had a few times where I'd buy something and they would cancel the order. I did it again to the same seller on a different item, same thing happened. Not sure of the reason he gave. Just said item no longer for sale or something.

 

Also how do these so called "professional" ebayers not get their ad correct and make the buyer hunt for the info. Its a scam!!!!!!!!!!! Vague title, buried info. Scammers!

While I'm on a rant roll, I have problems with the current practice of vendors saying an order is shipped as soon as a shipping label is created. Many Chinese vendors do this to keep eBay off their backs when they take too long to actually ship an item. I'v had them report an item as havign been shipped ony to find out later they didn't even have it in stock, claiming "our warehouse was out". More likely, the bastards were unauthorized arbitrageurs.

As an eBay seller, blame eBay for the label thing. If I print out a label from eBay, it automatically marks the item as shipped.

I usually print the label the day of, or the day before, as the next day I may be strapped for time and just need to drop it off.

I don't consider this fraud at all. Even if a shipping notice is generated, the tracking information will clearly state "Label created" and nothing else. Depending on the number of employees and scale of the operation, it may be impractical to print the label on the same day it's getting picked up.

The notifications I get from eBay clearly say that the item has been shipped even though the order hasn't been filled yet. Maybe it's different in CA.

 

I agree that shipping notifications should not be sent until the carrier takes possession of the package. But since it doen't happen that way, vendors should NOT make the darned label until the order has been picked and packaged. Printing the label before the item has been even picked is fraud, especially when the vendor is out of stock (I've had the latter happen many times on eBay, all Chinese vendors who were probably unauthorized arbitrageurs). I don't give the north end of a south bound furry little rodent if a vendor finds it impractical to print the later after the order has been picked and packed. if the vendor can't (or just won't) operate without waiting to print the label until after the order has been picked and packed, it's doing something wrong and has no business being in business.
