you might be able to add the GPU, RAM i dont know and the CPU would need a new motherboard and RAM aswell

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Ryzen cpus cant work with DDR2 ram they need DDR4. So you will have to get an AM4 motherboard

Working with Unreal Engine is usually smoother on Intel as it favours single thread performance once you have at least 4 cores, so ideally an i5 8400 with the GTX 1050.

If you still want to go AMD APU route, you may but then aim for the Ryzen 5 2400G and use the APU instead of buying a GTX 1050.

Either ways you gonna need to build a whole new system, new motherboard and DDR4 memory.

no it will no  the  Ryzen 3 is not comparable with DDR2 nor is the motherboard it comes in.  the Dell precision 490 has a odd layout as well so installing a motherboard for a ryzen CPU would be difficult as well as adding a full size GPU.  your best bet would be to just add a graphics card and be done with it if your not willing to spend a few the few hundred it would take to make the components work and fit properly.  But if you dead set on upgrading to Ryzen 3 you could will need  a AM4 motherboard at least 2 sticks of DDR4  preferably the fastest you can get and 8 gigs or more, a new case and power supply as well. the things you could use form the Dell would be the CD drive and HDD/SSD.
