RTX 2070 for i54460 How huge is the bottleneck?

Joe-G

Looking to upgrade my gtx 970 to an rtx 2070 since the prices of GPU in Japan is bonkers, Availability of gtx 1080 is scarce as well. (gtx 1070 costs the same as rtx 2070)

I'm worried that the bottleneck would be too huge, Would it affect my performance significantly? Anything above 60fps is fine.

Is it worth it to upgrade my cpu next year? Will there be a new line of intel cpus releasing in 2019? Please recommend a new mobo and cpu combo around 40,000 yen (350 usd)

Current monitor is only at 1080p I'm looking forward to upgrading it as well recommendations are welcome within (250 usd) 1440p 60hz is enough.

Current specs:

i54460

1x 8gb ram

250gb 850 evo ssd (real mvp)

1tb hdd

gtx 970

antec 550 psu

Will upgrade as soon as funds are available.

ps. Will touch ur pp for pc parts

There will definitely be a bottleneck. If there is a chance to buy a used 4790K (and you have a Z series mobo) and you overclock it then there will be no / a very small bottleneck.

@MoneyISthebottleneck if you are willing to up the CPU and mobo you will also need new ram, as what you are on is DDR3. id suggest a ryzen 5 2600, a mobo, and some 3000mhz ram. but that will probably put you over budget of the 350USD you want to spend.

and for a monitor, id probably say a 144hz 1080p would be better if you are doing any sort of FPS gaming. if not FPS gaming, then have at a 1440p 60hz monitor, i can get you some suggestions if you would like.

The i5 cpu will hold back gaming performance by a massive amount...in fact GTX 970 is the max you should consider for this cpu...and even then it will struggle and stutter a fair amount in more demanding games..

Forget about a new GPU for now and focus on upgrading your cpu/motherboard and ram.
